We're a team of 23 handmaking gentle, natural tallow skincare in Christchurch โ on a mission to help as many Kiwis with dry, itchy skin as we possibly can.
PrimalPantry started life as a bone broth company, selling at Christchurch markets every weekend. Tallow โ the rendered fat โ was a by-product, and we'd sell it for cooking. (No, before you ask, that's not how we make our skincare tallow anymore!)
Lightbulb moment. We chalked up "Tallow balm coming next week" on the board, and within minutes a crowd had formed. The next week our first whipped tallow balm sold out in an hour.
Every week we turned up with more tallow and less broth, until the whole stall was tallow. We've never looked back.

As demand grew, the obvious next step looked like shelves โ getting our tallow balm into stores around the country. So we tried it, and grew to 125+ stockists nationwide.
What we learned: every middle layer between us and you meant a higher price, less of the advice and care people came to us for, and less of the relationship that made PrimalPantry what it is. We could look after our customers far better by doing it ourselves.
So we made a call most brands don't: we stepped back out of retail and went online exclusive โ handmaking everything ourselves and shipping it direct to your door. Better value, better care, and a direct line to the people who actually use it.

I'm a Christchurch local who went from selling broth at the markets to handmaking tallow skincare for Kiwis all over the country. None of this was the plan โ it grew out of hundreds of hours talking to customers about what their skin actually needed.
Those conversations shaped everything: keeping it gentle and natural, keeping it honestly priced, and keeping it close โ made by us, sold by us, looked after by us. That's still how we do it today.
We help support the EANZ's work, and their experts have screened our products for commonly flaring ingredients. To us it's a symbol of a shared mission โ helping as many Kiwis as possible with dry, irritated skin. It's not a cure or endorsed fix, so always patch test first.
